In the age of smartphones and tablets, it is more important than ever that your website is user-friendly across all internet devices.

responsive santa fe web designIn this day and age, smartphones and tablets are outselling the more traditional desktop and laptop computers. You can see it everywhere you go; people are glued to their devices. That’s why it is so important that website owners think about how their websites might be perceived on the smallest of screens. With that in mind, let’s talk a little bit about Responsive Web Design.

What is Responsive Web Design?

Responsive design is a web design approach that considers widths of devices accessing a particular website and adjusts structure and content accordingly – typically there are three widths taken into consideration. A person viewing a website with a desktop and laptop will have a more traditional view of the website, where a person viewing the same website on a mobile device will view the same website in a different format that provides an optimal viewing experience.

I have a website; can I make it responsive?

The quick answer is yes, but depends on how clean your code is. If your website is old, it’s probably more cost-effective over the long run to rebuild and reinstitute original and updated content into a new website.

Why not just have a mobile app for my website?

If this is your preference and you have the money, we say go for it. But in terms the process, and cost effectiveness, it’s better to have one place that is designed to be responsive to different media devices, not two places where content will need to be updated twice.

Is Responsive Web Design a good solution for the future?

Absolutely! Responsive web design deals with media queries so that when a certain device is using a website, the website understands the widths of the device and adjusts the structure accordingly.

Examples of our Responsive Web Designs

Though responsive web design has been around since 2010, it hasn’t really become popular until the latter part of 2012. And still, Jacobito Design wasn’t commissioned to build a responsive website until the third quarter of 2013 with the build out of Metro Building Products’ website. Since then it has been hit and misses until this last summer (2014), where we have seeing steady client requests for responsive web design; the most recent being the site we built for Choice Cycle Exchange. Other sites are in the works and will be pushed live by year’s end.

So, if you are shopping for a new website or redesign, and want to optimize the usability of your future website, contact Jacobito Design. We’ll help you better understand your options, and explain why responsive web design is the best option for your business.
